Ottawa Streets Department crews load up on salt mixture Monday in preparation of a winter storm expected to sweep through the area beginning Monday night through Wednesday afternoon. As of late Monday, the area is under a winter storm advisory, according to the National Weather Service. Between 8-10 inches of snow could accumulate by noon Wednesday, but blowing snow, possibly near-blizzard conditions in open areas, could pose the worst hazard. Headline: This Life (Serena)
It was only a half-hour recess, but when the cold winter winds blow, it can seem like an eternity. Due to the cold weather, the students at Serena Elementary School have not been outside for recess since December. But on this February day it was time to take it outside again. Though temperatures were in the 20s, the winds made it seem colder. With only a few minutes left before heading inside, four students from the third-grade class decided to hunker down and wait it out and block out the wind by pulling their hats over their heads to keep warm. Soon the coats and hats will be discarded as spring approaches and recess will seem to go by much quicker.
