First in line and first person to receive an H1N1 flu shot Monday at Illinois Valley Community College was Greg Matteson of Ottawa. Matteson tried his luck previously at a Grundy County vaccination clinic, but the vaccine was depleted before his turn was up. The La Salle County Health Department held Monday's clinic at IVCC for high-priority individuals.

Washko's son, Aaron, died of a heroin overdose in 2008. Washko was part of the Red Ribbon Week program speaking about the dangers of drugs.

Headline: STREATOR'S KING KANE
Last Friday was supposed to be Kelly Kane's final appearance on the sidelines as head coach of the Streator Bulldogs. However, the Ottawa Township High School strike eliminated the contest. Still, Kane's players didn't allow Kane to go out without honoring the STHS coach of the last 10 years. The football players had a team picture taken with Kane in the gym, and each player individually thanked Kane for his service at STHS. Kane, who also is the school's athletics director, is set to step down at the end of this school year.
