Connecting to WebTV using MyWebTimes

With WebTV does not have Internet access in all areas. If the MyWebTimes access number is local for you but WebTV is not, you can still use WebTV, only as a "SLIP" service. You will need to purchase both an MyWebTimes account as well as an account through WebTV in order to accomplish this. To contact WebTV, call 1-800-GO-WEBTV or visit http://www.webtv.net. The fee for this service to WebTV normally starts at $9.95 per month. For frequently asked questions or troubleshooting advice, contact WebTV.

If you have not yet signed up for our service, you will want to call our office at 433-9700 to set up an account. Then, follow the instructions below. Please note: subscribers must be logged on as the primary user. The primary user is the name the subscriber chose the first time they connected to the WebTV Network service.

  • From the WebTV Web Homepage, select Settings from the top bar. On older WebTv units, there will be a Setup button instead, and you will have to select Dialing to get to the Use an ISP window.
  • Select Use an ISP
  • Choose Sign Up Now
  • Enter Your MyWebTimes account information:
    Service Provider Name: MyWebTimes
Login Name: Your MyWebTimes Username all in lower case
Password: Your MyWebTimes password all in lower case
You can leave the option for a backup number blank and in the phone number field enter:
433-9000 for Ottawa customers or 673-4011 for Streator customers.
  • Choose Use Your ISP

Now you should be able to log in to your WebTV as usual, using MyWebTimes as your dial in access. If you have problems with your WebTV access, first make sure that you are entering your name and password in lower case without spaces or symbols (you do not need @webtv.net or @MyWebTimes.com anywhere in the username blank). Listen to hear if WebTV is even dialing out. Make note of any errors that occur. If it is dialing, but not connecting, you may want to try using the back up phone number as the first choice modem number. You can also contact MyWebTimes to verify your login information or to verify the phone numbers but all other connection problems should be dealt with through WebTV.
