St. Anthony School, Streator, kicked off its new "Club Life!" (Life Is For Everyone) in October. Club Life! is for all students with a focus on respect for life; lessons on the corporal works of mercy; and follows the Catholic Church calendar of feast days. This club combines leadership, civic and spiritual formation of students and will sponsor activities that build upon a lesson they learned in school. The inaugural event was held in honor of Respect Life Sunday, Oct. 4, and the feast of St. Francis. Students, teachers and parishioners were invited to hear the first guest speaker, Lois Guyon. Guyon, a retired professor from Illinois State University, spearheaded the renewal of Spring Lake Falls. She gave a Power Point presentation to the students on how and why we show respect to nature and wildlife. Later that day, Guyon met about 30 guests at Spring Lake Falls for a guided hike and to play an educational nature game. For more information on the park check out www.springlakefalls.org.
