Newark FFA won the favorite scarecrow contest at Meadowlands Farm last month, with its pumpkin head scarecrow named Korn Kurl. Visitors chose their favorites in a penny-a-vote contest. All 12,642 penny votes were donated to Kendall County Food Pantry. Other favorite scarecrows were Reada Rowe entered by Robert W. Rowe Library in Sheridan, Lily LeGardner by Newark Garden Club, Edwina the Immigrant by Fern Dell Historic Association in Newark, Bob by Somonauk Christian School and Tough Guy by blacksmith Goetz Schuppan.
