An Ottawa man, whom city drug detectives arrested last summer for growing marijuana, pleaded guilty to the charge Monday and was sentenced to county jail and probation.

Campbell, 46, 705 Westwood Drive, accepted a negotiated agreement with La Salle County prosecutors and was given 120 days in jail and 30 months probation by Circuit Judge Cynthia Raccuglia. Prosecutor Ryan Cantlin noted Campbell had previous drug convictions. Ottawa investigators executed a search warrant June 30 at Campbell's residence and found marijuana seeds, more than 60 grams of marijuana. packaging material and a small amount of cash. Officers, in their search, also reported they discovered a daily planner with unique instructions for watering and fertilizing the growing marijuana crop. On Monday, Campbell also was ordered to pay $1,500 in fines and court costs. Last fall, the convicted man was forced to forfeit $129 police confiscated from the residence in the original search. Per Illinois statute, that seized money was distributed to local law enforcement agencies. |
