STREATOR — Soloists have been named for this year's presentation of Handel's "Messiah," to be performed at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, at First United Methodist Church, 201 S. Monroe St. in Streator. All featured soloists are current or former members of the Peoria Civic Chorale. - Soprano Camilla Russell studied vocal performance at Illinois Wesleyan and Bradley universities and earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Eureka College. She has performed both internationally and locally with Peoria Civic Opera, Stage 212, River Valley Players, Peoria Players and Cornstock Theatre. Choral director at Streator Township High School, she is married to David Russell and has two married sons.
- Alto Rebecca Evans received her music education degree with an emphasis in voice from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. Evans teaches general music and directs seventh- and eighth-grade choir in the Ottawa Elementary Schools district.
- Tenor David Blasco, a native of Streator, is director of music and church life for Glen Oak Christian Church in Peoria, where he now resides. In addition to singing with the Peoria Civic Chorale, Blasco is a guest vocalist with the Peoria Municipal Band and assistant director of the Dominican Festival Choir. In the spring, he traveled with the choir on a concert tour to Ireland, where he was a featured soloist and director. He also is featured on the choir's "Spain 2006" CD.
- Baritone Karl Houck holds degrees from Hartwick College and the University of Illinois. He recently performed with the Caprock Early Music Association in Lubbock, Texas, as as a professional chorister and soloist with the National City Christian Church in Washington. Houck also sings with the Bradley Community Chorus and will perform with the 2010 Peoria Bach Festival. He is a massage therapist and personal trainer who works in physical rehabilitation.
All area singers are invited to join the Streator Community Chorus for this concert. Rehearsals will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, or Tuesday, Dec. 1, and Monday, Dec. 7, or Tuesday, Dec. 8, at the church.
