The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of La Salle County walk/run event will be Friday, June 18, and Saturday, June 19, at City Park in Streator.
Print this storyThe event will raise money for cancer research and increase awareness available to cancer patients, their families and communities. Teams of 10 to 15 people from corporations, hospitals, civic groups and families take turn in the Relay. At least one team member at a time must walk, jog or run around the track for a scheduled period of time. Each team captain coordinates the team schedule. The event begins Friday, June 18, at 3 p.m. with campsite set up and activities. Registration is at 5 p.m. The Relay begins at 6 p.m. with the opening ceremony and the survivors' victory lap. Teams begin walking after the victory lap. The luminaria ceremony begins at dusk to honor cancer survivors and to remember those who lost the battle against cancer. This ceremony is open to the public and attendees do not have to be on a Relay team. The closing ceremony will be at 6 a.m. Saturday, June 19. Participating teams raise the money for this event. Each member should raise a minimum of $100 from donors before the event. Incentive prizes may be awarded to those teams and/or individuals raising more money.
