The guys who brought you the "Ottawa: It's Serious Fun" music video are planning more laughs this winter and into the summer.

The production company Fishsticks and Milk is planning "Enriching Your Community: An abstract look at the average City Council meeting." The show, planned for mid- to late-July, will be a mock City Council meeting performed at Ottawa Township High School, said Tyler Amm of Fishsticks and Milk.

Several fliers have been posted around Ottawa looking for volunteers for the show — anything from helping with lights to acting as a council member.

"Actors are being the mock City Council and the audience will be the supposed citizens," Amm said. "There's a central plot, but there's prerecorded video, onstage sketches and audience participation."

Fishsticks and Milk went to Mayor Robert Eschbach with the idea and he encouraged the group to provide entertainment to Ottawa's youth.

"He's actually the one that pushed us to do more stuff. I guess, in terms, monopolize on it," he said. "He thinks we can provide a service."

Eschbach said he met with Amm recently to hear Fishsticks and Milk's plan and offered to help in any way he could.

"I think the city should encourage all kinds of arts," Eschbach told The Times. "These young people seem very talented and they're willing to express themselves and have some fun."

Amm said even though most of the members are scattered at various colleges, they look forward to bringing their entertainment back home to Ottawa.

"Most of us are still pretty young. We want to give back to the younger generation. There isn't much to do in the area," said Amm, a student at Illinois State University. Fishsticks and Milk also includes Ottawa natives Griffin Youngstrum, a student at Carthage College, and Marc Wilkinson, a student at Columbia College.

Amm also met with Kim "Howard" Johnson, who starred with Walt Willey in "The Odd Couple" show at OTHS during the summer. Johnson and Willey are staging another performance this summer and Fishsticks and Milk met to discuss the possibility of coordinating shows.

Fishsticks and Milk has other projects planned, such as a talent show and a follow-up to its "Ottawa: Serious Fun" music video they produced in August. To date, the video has had more than 35,000 views on YouTube. The comedic film poked fun at the filmmakers' hometown of Ottawa

Fishsticks and Milk is looking for sponsors for its show to help with the costs of the venue and other associated costs. Amm said they also are looking for people to get involved. If interested, call 815-488-0848.
