Alcohol appears to have been a factor in the death of a Blackstone motorcyclist last month.

Scott A. Boyd, 23, was found June 23 following an accident at about midnight June 21 on County Highway 30, north of North 23rd Road in Brookfield Township.

Deputy Adam Diss, an accident reconstructionist with the La Salle County Sheriff's Office, testified at a coroner's inquest Thursday the motorcycle and Boyd were located in the early afternoon of June 23 after he had been reported missing after leaving the Freedom Run in Marseilles June 21.

Boyd's father had called Marseilles police when Boyd did not show up for work.

A police investigation revealed Boyd left the event with his brother riding in front of him, but then when Boyd's brother reached the Grand Ridge Blacktop, he realized Boyd was no longer behind him. The blacktop is about three miles from the accident site.

At the accident site, the road curves sharply to the right, Diss testified. It appears Boyd went straight through a ditch and into a grassy area.

He was found about 60 feet away from the motorcycle -- a 2008 Harley-Davidson.

Diss was unable to determine Boyd's speed at the time of the accident as there were not enough marks on the road.

Boyd died of blunt head and neck trauma. He was not wearing a helmet.

Toxicology results were negative for drugs, but Boyd's blood alcohol content was .207. The state's legal limit is .08.

A coroner's jury ruled the death accidental.
