Counselor attends hypnosis workshop in Schaumburg

John P. Houlihan, a licensed clinical professional counselor who has an office at 100 W. Superior St., Ottawa, was one of a group of psychologists, physicians, dentists, clinical counselors and allied health care professionals attending a workshop on hypnosis.

The session covered its application in medicine, dentistry, the surgical patient, pediatrics, pain, cancer treatment and I.B.S. It was sponsored by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis-Education and Research Foundation.

The presentations dealt with medical hypnotic induction, self-hypnosis and strategies for pain management, hypnosis in the treatment of cancer and irritable bowel syndrome, and hypnotic interventions in dentistry.

The workshop was held Sept. 7 to 10 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Woodfield in Schaumburg.
