In NCIC football play Friday night, La Salle-Peru won a thriller with a 3-0 victory over Norridge, while Geneseo defeated Quincy Notre Dame by a 14-6 tally.

The Mendota Trojans pulled off a mild upset, knocking off Dixon by a single point, 15-14. The Dukes took an lead early in the final stanza when Jordan Kettler broke an 88-yard run for a touchdown (Capilla kick) to take their first lead of the night, but Patrick Fisher punched in a TD from three yards out, then Fisher ran in the two-pointer for the victory.

Three other NCIC Lincoln teams also were victorious, with Hall beating Pearl City/Lanark Eastland 33-32, Princeton scoring 42 to Elmwood Park's 22, IVC knocking off Peoria Central 27-14, and Rock Falls falling to Peoria Woodruff 10-7.

BIG RIVERS

The Bureau Valley Storm scored three touchdowns in the first period and went on post a 40-point Big Rivers Conference victory over the St. Bede Bruins on Friday night, 47-7. St. Bede (0-3) avoided the shutout on an 11-yard run by Andy Bellino with 10 seconds to play.

In other Big Rivers play, Fulton blanked river Valley 50-0, Morrison trounced Riverdale 48-7, and Amboy took care of Erie-Prophetstown 33-6.

INTERSTATE EIGHT

The Plano Reapers scored on their first play from scrimmage when Jared Ferguson ran for a 70-yard touchdown in a contest featuring the favored teams in their respective divisions of the Intertstate Eight Conference, with Plano coming out on top 14-7.

Ferguson added a second TD at 9:33 of the second period on a 37-yard run with Kevin Jernigan adding the 14th Reaper point on the PAT.

Ferguson finished the night with 118 rushing yards to lead the Reaper ground attack. Defensively, Josh O'Hara came through with 10 solo tackles and four assists while Paul Corbin had two sacks.

Nick Nasti left the game with a sprained ankle.

In other I-8 play, Wilmington beat Lisle 14-7, Westmont crushed Herscher 30-6, Coal City tallied 40 to Manteno's 18, and Dwight outscored Peotone 43-33.

HEART OF ILLINOIS

In addition to Fieldcrest and Flanagan-Woodland moving to 3-0, Fisher edged state-ranked Lexington 20-18, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley blew out Farmer City-Blue Ridge 55-8, Dee-Mack lost again 34-13 to LeRoy, and Tremont topped El Paso-Gridley 34-20.
